TALC Schedules and Events
FREE English Classes

Our Sumner classes meet every Tuesday at the Sumner Family Center. The Beginner and Intermediate courses meet at 9:00 am to 11:00 am. The Advanced-Intermediate course meets at 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Please note that the Sumner classes will not meet on certain holidays and may have limited meet-ups during the summer.

Our Parkland class meets every Wednesday at 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm through at the Pierce County Library in Parkland. Please note that the Parkland class will not meet on some holidays and does not meet during the summer.

We are working on establishing more classes throughout Pierce County. If you’d like to see a class in your area, we would like to know where we are needed! Please contact us and let us know!
Tutor Training

Our spring training program brought us 14 new tutors! We are so grateful to have their help!

Our fall training program will take place in September and October of 2026. Training will consist of
Saturday, September 12, 2026, in-person in University Place from about 9 am until 2 pm
Six online sessions, 1.5 hours each, on Tuesdays and Thursdays (September 15, 17, 22, 24, 29, and October 1, 2026)
Saturday, October 3, 2026, in-person in University Place from about 9 am until 1 pm
Please note that the online sessions are held on Zoom and will require a stable internet connection to participate.

TALC Library & Social Meet-ups
The TALC library is located in University Place. Library days are also a great opportunity to socialize and exchange information and tips. The library will be open for the following open houses:

TALC Talks
TALC Talks are informational seminars about literacy-related topics. They are offered several times per year and are generally held on Zoom. If you have a suggestion or a topic you’d like to hear about it, please let us know!

Conversation Nights for ESL Learners

Our Fifth Annual Summer Picnic will be held on Sunday, August 23rd, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. Some food will be provided. Please bring a dish to share! All volunteers, learners, and family members are welcome to attend! You will be asked to RSVP through your tutor in early August. Look to your tutor and the JOTS newsletter for more information!
