TALC Schedules and Events

Learning English may start with the very basics, and games are often useful tools.

FREE English Classes

  • Our Sumner classes meet every Tuesday at the Sumner Family Center. The Basics and Beginner courses meet at 9:00 am to 11:00 am The Intermediate course meets at 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

    Please note that the Summer classes will NOT meet on December 24th or December 31st, 2024. The class WILL meet on January 7, 2025.

  • Our Parkland class meets every Wednesday at 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm through at the Pierce County Library in Parkland.

    Please note that class will NOT meet on December 25th, 2024, nor January 1st, 2025. Class WILL meet on January 8th, 2025.

  • We are working on establishing more classes throughout Pierce County. If you’d like to see a class in your area, we would like to know where we are needed! Please contact us and let us know!

New Tutors are trained in tools and techniques for passing on English language literacy.

Tutor Training

  • Our spring training program, which took place in February and March this year, brought us 17 new tutors! We are so grateful that they have decided to join us!

  • Our Fall Tutor Training will be in September to October of 2025. We will have precise dates closer to that time, so please check back for more details. If you would like to be on the email list for this training program, please email tacoma.literacy@gmail.com.

Tutors enjoy regular video conference meetings to keep in touch with TALC activities and discuss issues.

TALC provides an extensive library of learning materials available for Tutors to select from to maximize their time with their Learners.

TALC Library Open

The TALC library is located in University Place. The library will be open for the following open house:

  • Saturday, June 14, 2025, 9:30 am to 11:00 am

Conversation Nights for ESL Learners

TALC members meet periodically to enjoy an outdoor picnic with other Tutors and their Learners, just to have a fun day together.

Social Events

Our Fourth Annual Summer Picnic will be on Sunday, August 24th, 2025, from 3 pm to 8 pm at Bradley Lake Park in Puyallup! This is our rare chance to see everybody all in one place! We will be sending an invite to tutors so that they may RSVP for themselves, their learners, and family members. As always, hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided, and we ask everyone to bring a dish to share. We also ask that everyone bring their own beverages (preferably in a reusable or recyclable container) to reduce waste. Check back here for updates!
