Emily Walner - Chair
Emily has been a tutor with TALC since 2018. She filled the role of TALC Fundraising Coordinator before becoming Chairperson in 2025. In a past life, she worked as a geologist with other scientists and realized the importance of English literacy. Even the most educated and clever professionals could be limited in their potential in the US if they could not communicate well with those around them. The most rewarding part of tutoring for Emily is making connections with people and helping them manage language-related things that would otherwise be a lot more stressful.
Other interests of Emily's are travel, enjoying the outdoors, and learning foreign languages. -
Kay Jones - Vice Chair
Kay may not be a lion tamer, but she did meet that cub at a rescue place in South Africa. In addition to serving as TALC’s Vice Chair, Kay is the TALC Curriculum Specialist and is focused on showcasing tools and materials useful in tutoring.
Kay is a Georgia native who hasn’t lost much of her accent, a retired high school teacher, world traveler, Duolingo junkie — French, Spanish, Japanese, Swahili and Vietnamese, has had both knees and hips replaced — “going for the complete cyborg,” she says, and is a certificated scuba diver.

Jenn Black - Secretary
Jenn enjoys her work as a literacy tutor because she can combine all her favorite activities: conversation, meeting and learning about new people, reading, writing, and teaching. She came to TALC after a career in the field of special education and early intervention where she served in various capacities to support families of children with disabilities. When she is not tutoring, Jenn spends her time driving her favorite teenagers to their appointments and activities.
